FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As all our bins come standard with brakes, you are able to use a smaller tractor than normal. However, we still recommend that for an 18T chaser bin you would need 180HP or greater tractor to operate it.

No, our seeding dual purpose bins are specifically designed so you can hold seed in one side and fertilizer in the other and unload each separately. By using out split adjustable grain flow doors you can open just one side of the grain flow doors to only allow seed or fertiliser into the floor Augers. Use the swinging cleanout doors to remove any excess before opening up the other side of the grain flow doors. You should be prepared for a small amount of contamination if you do not empty the discharge auger between fills.

18T – 38T Nyrex Chaser bins and all Maximus Mother bins come standard with a 22” Auger.
45T -75T Nyrex Chaser bins come standard with a 24” Auger.

The Dynamis Field bin and our Geminus Seed & Super bins have twin 18” Augers standard.

Our 18T-38T Chaser bins with 22″ discharge augers will unload at up to 16T per minute on HYD/PTO drive and up to 20T per minute on full PTO drive. Our 45T to 75T Chaser bins with 24″ discharge augers will unload at up to 18T per minute on HYD/PTO drive and up to 25T per minute on full PTO drive.

Our Seed & Super Bins have twin 18” Augers standard and are capable of unloading at up to 20T per minute.

All GrainKing Chaser bins and Motherbins, Seed & Super Bins are standard with PTO discharge and Hydraulic sweep auger(s) (PTO/HYD).

Seed & Super Bins can be converted to full HYD/HYD drive.

Chaser Bins can be converted to full HYD/HYD drive for no PTO available or to gain more control. Go full PTO/PTO drive for maximum unload speed.

Full hydraulic drive setup on Geminus Seed & Super Bins requires 225L/m of hydraulic oil.

Full hydraulic setup on your Nyrex Chaser bin or Maximus motherbin requires 300L/m to run at full capacity.

Weight scales are available as an optional add on for most GrainKing products. These are paired with the Libra cart app or the Topcon app.

GrainKing Chaser Bins and Seed & Super bins come with 30.5 L – 32 Lug harvest tyres, 800/65 – 32 lug flotation tyres or 900/65 – 32 lug flotation tyres depending on which size bin and axle configuration.

GrainKing Mother Bins come with dual 315/80R-22.5 truck tyres.

800/65R32 block flotation tyre upgrades are available for all GrainKing Chaser and Seed & Super bins!

700/50 – 26.5 flotation tyres are available for Maximus motherbins.

All grain and seeding bins over 3.7 meters in width require an escort due to legal size restrictions. GrainKing ensures compliance by supplying oversize signs, lights, and beacons as standard on all their bins, which are from 3.5m wide to just under 4.5 meters wide. This makes transportation safer and easier, providing the necessary visibility and signaling to avoid potential hazards while on the road. GrainKing’s exceptions are the 135T Dynamis Mother Bin which is under 3.7m wide, our 18T-38T Chaser bins which are 3.5m wide (without tyres) meaning no escort is needed and our 300T Mother Bin is 5.5m wide, meaning two escorts are needed.

Why go Tandem or tri axle? While all GrainKing bins come standard with hydraulically operated brakes on all wheels, the tandem axle setups are equipped with heavy duty hydraulic suspension with increased travel of 400mm total, a rear steering axle (which can be hydraulically locked for reversing and high-speed paddock/road use), heavy-duty axles, and rear steer shock absorbers. Similarly, the tri axles also feature both rear and front steering, further enhancing maneuverability. This setup is designed to minimize strain on the tractor, axles and moving parts when towing the unit, reduce the weight on the drawbar while maintaining a low center of gravity, minimize ground damage during turns and decrease soil compaction.

Brakes are crucial on chaser bins for both safety and functionality. Chaser bins are heavy and only increase in weight when filled with grain, without brakes, they can be slow to stop, posing a significant risk to operators and other equipment on the field. The added weight makes it harder to control the bin, especially when descending slopes or maneuvering over contour banks etc. Brakes allow for safer, more precise stopping, reducing the chance of accidents, equipment damage, or injury. Ultimately, having brakes on chaser bins enhances control, ensuring smooth operation and preventing potentially hazardous situations.

Of course, your chaser bin can be moved loaded!

However, with Field and Mother bins, do not attempt to move a bin with more than 5 tons of grain inside while transporting it on the road. The added weight of grain can cause the bin to become unstable at speed, jack-knife, damage the tractor and shear drawbar pins, potentially causing the field bin to roll away. Field bins and Motherbins should be towed with a tractor of 250 horsepower or more depending on the size of the bin.

GrainKing Nyrex Chaser Bins all come standard with 22″ or 24″ adjustable pivoting auger, single set of hoses on full PTO drive, brakes, lights, 3 x cameras, roll tarp, oversize signs, lights and beacons, sample chute, side access door, front and rear steering and hydraulic suspension on tandem/tri models.

GrainKing Geminus Seed & Super Bins all come standard with 18″ Augers, seeding trunks, raincaps on discharge spouts, stainless floors and Auger barrels, brakes, lights, 3 x cameras, oversize signs, sample chute, lights and beacons, side access door and leaf spring suspension on Tandem/Tri models.

A chaser bin is a vital piece of equipment on a farm, designed to improve efficiency during harvest. It is towed beside the header, allowing the harvester to keep moving while unloading grain into the bin. This means the header doesn’t have to stop or slow down to unload, maximizing productivity and minimizing downtime. The chaser bin helps to streamline the harvesting process by allowing the tractor and driver to transport the grain to a central location or storage while the header continues to work. This continuous workflow ensures faster harvesting, reduces fuel consumption, and ultimately helps farmers save time and labor during the busy harvest season.

The main difference is their specific functions and design. Typically, trailers are more general-purpose for transporting various materials, whereas chaser bins are specialised for grain handling and designed for efficiency in harvest operations.

The world’s largest mother bin is the GrainKing Mother Bin, known as the Maximus. It has a massive capacity of 300 tonnes. This mother bin is distinguished as the “largest in the world“. It provides a solution for farmers who require larger storage capacities during harvest, eliminating the need for multiple smaller field bins and making their harvest experience as efficient as it can be.

A Mother bin plays a crucial role during harvest by acting as a mobile storage unit that eliminates the need for chaser bins to drive back to the silos. As the chaser bins unload into the Mother bin, it provides an additional fill point for the trucks, speeding up the transfer process and reducing downtime. This allows the header to keep moving without interruption, maintaining a continuous harvesting flow. By removing the need to drive back to the silos and increasing efficiency, the Mother bin helps streamline the entire operation, saving time and improving productivity during the harvest season.

A Mother bin can hold varying amounts of grain depending on its size and model. For instance, the Nyrex Maximus ranges from 140 tonnes up to 300 tonnes. This large capacity makes mother bins particularly useful for on-field storage during intensive harvesting operations.

Depending on your farming operation, a smaller 18 – 38 tonne chaser bin is enough to keep up with 1 header on small blocks. For running multiple headers or on larger blocks, either several smaller bins or one of the larger size bins going up to 75 tonnes would be more suitable to keep up and not have the header stop.
